Bruno Mars Wins His First VMA At The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards
(AS Performance VMAs)
Last night, Bruno Mars took home his first ever MTV Video Music Award. But he did it in a big way. You see, he left with not one, but TWO VMAs! The second most awards won by a performer that night (Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won 3 each). Not bad for a first timer. He won Best Male Video for "Locked Out Of Heaven" and Best Choreography for "Treasure." Congratulations to Bruno and the Hooligans.
Not only did he take home two awards, but he also gave a spectacular firey lazer beaming performance of "Gorilla." This was the first televised live performance of "Gorilla."
I'm not quite sure which was more special. The fact that he won for the first time or that he brought his father Peter Hernandez as his "date." I'm sure it had to be a pretty special moment to have his dad there with him for such a special achievement. Probably even more so after losing his mother.

I think the sentiment was captured with this tweet/instagram from his sisters group The Lylas. "There are no words to express how proud we are of this moment and the award has nothing to do with it..."
